Eric Johnson became IT manager in 2007 and now recommends and implements IT strategies, policies and procedures; manages staff; and maintains the IT system. He has worked for Safe Refuge since 2004, initially in the scheduling department. Mr. Johnson is responsible for bringing the organization’s technology into the 21st century.
“When I was hired,” he recalls, “everyone was using old, donated PCs. I replaced the old PCs with secure thin clients that store no company data, use as much energy as a four-watt bulb, and cost 75 percent less than a PC.”
Mr. Johnson also converted the company from paper-driven processes to effective electronic systems and implemented a backup system that can restore crashed computers in as little as five minutes.
Before Safe Refuge, Mr. Johnson was a case manager for Atlantic Recovery Services and office manager for the Travelers Aid Society, which helps the homeless find shelter and employment.
